The Denver Post By Troy E. Renck
T.J. Ward didn’t start until his senior year of high school. Two games into his final season, he broke his leg, scaring away college recruiters.
He walked on at Oregon, joining four teammates from California’s De La Salle High School. Nothing about his story followed the script. Ward wondered if football was the right destination.
“I had long days where I didn’t think I was going to play anymore. I remember times where I was like, ‘I just want to make a team,’ ” Ward recalled last week. “Then I realized what kind of player I could be in college and the NFL. I made the Pro Bowl. Now it’s about one thing: working, working, working.”
